… the much-anticipated Bonding Bonfire! Join SLOCAMA on Tuesday, August 16th at Olde Port Beach in Avila for a celebration of summer.

It’s B.Y.O.E. (bring your own everything) so grab your chair, your blanket, your friends and your favorite refreshments and head down to the beach for some warm times by the fire. (Oh, you could bring firewood, too, if you have some!)

The fun starts at 6pm. And who knows, it may never end.

SLOCAMA board members Rob, Lynne and Gael get their bond on.

June Meeting: SLOCAMA hosts Dr. David Gillette in a discussion of The Poly Ghost Project

Ghost Hunt at Cal Poly Integrates Liberal Arts and Engineering

On June 21st join SLOCAMA as we host a discussion with Dr. David Gillette about the Poly Ghost Project. The Poly Ghost Project is a wide ranging, interdisciplinary, mixed-media narrative technology project that that takes actual Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo history from the 1890s-1940s and converts it into a large-scale, multi-player interactive digital ghost story that can be played and experienced on every part of the Cal Poly campus and all across the city of San Luis Obispo.

The project makes extensive use of hundreds of period images, texts and audio recordings cataloged in the Cal Poly Kennedy Library and San Luis Obispo city archives. These historical materials are collected, digitized and creatively refashioned for this project into a series of ghost-inhabited images, sounds and personal texts that are delivered to users of the Poly Ghost system through a type of competitive, ghost-centered treasure hunt.

The Poly Ghost Project is built around a two-year-long development cycle that combines students and faculty from the colleges of Engineering and Liberal Arts, with specific design, development and testing contributions from the Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies faculty and students, and with faculty and students from the departments of Theater and Dance, Art and Design, Graphic Arts and Communication, Journalism, English, Computer Science and Architecture.

Dr. David Gillette is the Director of the Liberal Arts & Engineering Studies program, an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts program that combines, in equal portions, upper-level courses from the colleges of engineering and the liberal arts.

Networking begins at 5:30pm and the program begins at 6pm. Meetings are held at Big Images, 767 Francis Ave., San Luis Obispo.

There is currently no membership requirement, but attendees are asked to contribute $5 at each meeting they attend to support future events and programming.
